Champagne André Clouet
Grand Cru Bouzy — where Pinot Noir speaks in bubbles
The village that gave Champagne its backbone
Bouzy is one of Champagne's seventeen Grand Cru villages, and one of its most singular. Planted almost entirely to Pinot Noir on the south-facing slopes of the Montagne de Reims, it produces grapes of exceptional depth and structure — grapes that have historically been prized by the great négociant houses as the backbone of their prestige cuvées. André Clouet keeps them for himself.
The domaine farms just 4.5 hectares of Grand Cru vines in and around Bouzy — a tiny holding by any measure, but one of extraordinary quality. The wines are vinified with the precision and patience the terroir demands, and the results are Champagnes of remarkable character: rich, structured, and built to age in a way that most non-vintage Champagne simply is not.

Terroir
Bouzy sits on the southern flank of the Montagne de Reims, the forested ridge that separates the Marne valley from the Vesle. The south-facing exposure maximises sunlight hours and warmth, allowing Pinot Noir to ripen fully even in cooler vintages — a crucial advantage in a region where the difference between a good year and a great one is often measured in days of sunshine.
The soils are classic Champagne chalk — Belemnite chalk, the same formation that underlies the Côte des Blancs — overlaid with a thin layer of clay that retains just enough moisture to sustain the vines through the dry summer months. The combination produces Pinot Noir of exceptional concentration and mineral precision: wines that are simultaneously powerful and fine, with a chalky grip that is the unmistakable signature of the Montagne de Reims.
"We do not make Champagne. We make Bouzy — and then we add the bubbles."
Philosophy
André Clouet is a récoltant-manipulant in the truest sense: every grape is grown on the estate, every wine is made in the cellar beneath the family house in Bouzy. There is no purchased fruit, no blending across appellations. The philosophy is one of radical terroir focus — the goal is to express what Bouzy's Grand Cru Pinot Noir tastes like in a given year, and to do so with as little intervention as possible.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel to preserve the purity of the fruit, and the wines spend extended time on lees — well beyond the legal minimum — to develop the complexity and texture that define the house style. Dosage is kept to a minimum across the range. The Brut Grande Réserve is a multi-vintage blend that draws on a perpetual reserve; the Un Jour de 1911 is a zero-dosage statement of what the terroir can achieve without any addition at all.
Signature cuvées
Brut Grande Réserve
Non-vintage Brut100% Pinot Noir, Grand Cru Bouzy
The house flagship and the clearest expression of the André Clouet style. A multi-vintage blend anchored by a perpetual reserve, it shows the depth and consistency that only a single Grand Cru terroir can provide. The nose is all red fruit, brioche, and chalk; the palate is structured and persistent, with a fine, creamy mousse and a long, mineral finish. Exceptional value for a 100% Grand Cru Champagne.
Ageing: Minimum 36 months on lees; perpetual reserve component
Un Jour de 1911
Non-vintage Extra Brut100% Pinot Noir, Grand Cru Bouzy
Named for the year the domaine was founded, Un Jour de 1911 is the house's zero-dosage prestige cuvée — a wine that makes no concession to sweetness and asks the terroir to do all the work. The result is extraordinary: a Champagne of laser-like precision, with a saline, almost electric minerality that is unlike anything else in the appellation. For those who want to understand what Bouzy Grand Cru Pinot Noir truly tastes like, this is the wine.
Ageing: Minimum 48 months on lees; zero dosage
Rosé Saignée
Non-vintage Brut Rosé100% Pinot Noir, Grand Cru Bouzy — saignée method
Made by the saignée method — bleeding off a portion of the must after brief skin contact — rather than the more common assemblage approach, this is a rosé of genuine depth and structure. The colour is a vivid salmon-pink; the nose is all wild strawberry, rose petal, and a distinctive smoky, mineral note that is pure Bouzy. On the palate it is rich and textural, with a long, dry finish. A rosé built for food.
Ageing: Minimum 36 months on lees
Visiting
The domaine welcomes visitors to its cellar in Bouzy for tastings and direct sales by appointment. Bouzy is one of Champagne's most rewarding villages to visit — the Grand Cru vineyards are walkable from the village centre, and the still red Bouzy Rouge (a rare Champagne appellation red wine made from the same Pinot Noir vines) is available to taste alongside the Champagnes.
